Comments: Many nonprofit organizations find it hard to pay for fundraising help. Funds are in short supply and some feel that any money they have should go towards programs that serve the community, not fundraising. However, the problem with that way of thinking is that you will not have the resources in place to continue the work of the organization unless you make fundraising a priority.

So, how do you raise funds to pay for the costs of fundraising staff or an outside consultant? Here is one proven method: organize a few Board-driven events and use the proceeds to pay for fundraising. One Executive Director I know threw himself a big birthday bash and instead of accepting birthday gifts, asked his friends for a contribution to his organization. He raised $2,500 in one night. Check out Morrie Warshawski's "How to Throw a Fundraising House Party" for some tips on how to do this. Visit www.warshawski.com. Also, check out Kim Klein's "Fifty-three Ways for Board Members to Raise $1,000" which is full of strategies you can implement to raise unrestricted funds which you can then use to pay for fundraising costs.
